Sweeta Akbari, Ph.D.
Founder and CEO
Dr. Sweeta Akbari is the founder and CEO of Scholars in STEM. She holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at Tampere University in Finland. During her studies, she specialized in multiple disciplines within chemical engineering. She completed her bachelor’s studies in chemical engineering technology in Afghanistan and her postgraduate studies at the University Malaysia Pahang (UMP). Dr. Akbari’s expertise encompasses a multidisciplinary research background in chemical engineering, including biomaterials, emulsion sciences, surfaces and interfaces, 3D porous materials, polymers, plant-based bioactive compounds, synthesis of organic compounds, composites, and various analytical chemical analyses, rheology, and mechanical testing. She has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters published in international academic journals, showcasing her extensive expertise and contributions to the field.
Dr. Akbari has received many gold and silver medals for her research projects in Malaysia, highlighting the impact and recognition of her work. She has also received several awards for her achievements.
Dr. Akbari has also served as an advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan, where her expertise and insights have undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping academic publications, research activities, and professional development in the country.
Beyond her academic endeavors, she is deeply committed to supporting education and research opportunities for Afghan women and girls, especially following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021. Her dedication to this cause reflects her broader commitment to social justice and equal educational and professional development in STEM fields, particularly for women in underrepresented countries.
